Free Format Controls/Objects

Besides the standard delivered templates there is also the capability to create your own free format report. These new free format report can then be used to generate new Template by the Administrator. New report can be created such as 2 Tables, 2 tables and a linked chart. A number of controls can be added into the report and these are detailed below. In addition the controls can be linked to each other, such that a selection of an item in one control can update the details in one or any number of other controls, it can also be used to update the POV for the whole report if required. You can Format a Free Format Report in Design Mode. Design Mode is Turned on by clicking the Edit Layout button.

The different objects/ controls

  • Add: To add a Control click on + Add Control and choose the desired Control and enter the Basic Parameters. Read more about these parameters in the available Controls Section
Control Usage
Table Create a column based on a row and column list
Bars and Line Chart Create an object that consists of a line chart a bar chart or a combination of both
Bridge Create a bridge by using a Begin and End List and list based on movement. This can be calculated automatically or manually created
Multiple Scenario Chart Create a chart where a combination of different scenario can be used
Value Tree Create a chart that makes use of a tree view to show the coloration between different accounts
Tile Create a chart where a number can be combined with a variance and a little trend line. Also linking from the tile to a different report can be done
Gauge Create a chart that shows how far or close to the set boundaries the progress is
Pie/ Donut Chart Create a chart where it is visualized the size of selected items (size of entities in sales e.g.)
Web View Can be used to show a web page
Image Can be used to upload an image
Item Selector Can be used to create a list where can be selected from.
Label Can be used to create a label towards a combination of charts or just to write additional explanation
Link Can be used to navigate to a different report
Container Can be used to show that different objects belong together
News Can be used to show news items in a report (often used on a Home Page report)
Comment This gives the user the option to enter comments in the report
Precision and Scale This gives the user the flexibility to select desired scaling and precision
Application info This gives the user info when the application has been refreshed and what the license model is

More Information and Examples on the Available Controls

Table: This control creates a table on your report. This table is very similar in its capabilities to the table on the standard multi-column template.

Bars and Lines chart: This control creates a chart on your report. This chart is similar to the charts on the standard bars and lines chart template.

Bridge: This control creates a bridge or waterfall control on your report. A bridge is similar to a waterfall but turned 90 degrees. Our standard template waterfall only offers the waterfall orientation and not the bridge.

Multiple Scenario Chart: This control creates the specific chart from the standard template Multiple Scenario Analysis on your report, without the table that is part of this standard template. The free format control can be sized and placed as the admin sees fit.

Value Tree: This control creates a value tree visual on your report.

Tile: This control creates a Tile on your report. Tiles are useful to draw attention to specific, very important numbers. The can also be used as stepping stones for users to be redirected to other reports, with more details.

Tiles can calculate and bring attention to variances as well.

Pie/Donut chart: This control creates a Pie or Donut chart on your report. These chart types are useful to analyse the composition of a total number.

Image: This control puts images or icons on your report. These can, for example, be used to redirect users to other reports based on topics.

Item selector: This control creates a drop down box on your report, that can be used to affect behaviour of other control, like tables, charts and waterfalls.

Label: This control creates a text box on your report that can be used to explain or to redirect.

Power BI: This control creates a window on your report that is able to show Power BI content without login button and that allows this Power BI content to be exported.

Interactions between CXO and filtering in Power BI can be set up as well.
